CROP REPORT FOR PERIOD FROM SEPTEMBER 28 TO OCTOBER 4, 2010

Another week of warm and sunny weather has allowed Saskatchewan producers to make significant harvest progress. Sixty per cent of the 2010 crop has been combined, according to Saskatchewan Agriculture's Weekly Crop Report. This is an increase of 31 per cent over last week.

An additional 30 per cent is swathed or ready to straight-combine. The five-year provincial average (2005 to 2009) for this time of year is 85 per cent combined.

Combining progress across the province during the week of September 28 - October 4 was as follows:

  • Southwest, 66 per cent;
  • Southeast, 62 per cent;
  • West central, 47 per cent;
  • East central, 61 per cent;
  • Northwest, 57 per cent; and
  • Northeast, 68 per cent;

Fields are still very wet, making harvest difficult. The past couple of weeks of good weather has producers bringing in the crop as quickly as they can.
