News Release - September 2, 2005 MESSAGE FROM SASKATCHEWAN CENTENNIAL 2005 CHAIR GLENN HAGEL
As Saskatchewan begins our second century – a century full of opportunity and promise – we reflect on our first century as a province, and as a people.
We in Saskatchewan are known for our heart – that's why the centennial theme "100 years of heart" needs no explanation. It sums us up – our spirit, our conviction, our connection. As the volunteer capital of Canada, it's no surprise that hundreds if not thousands of people played a role in hosting events and helping with centennial projects across Saskatchewan. Thank you for showing your community and the many visitors that came to Saskatchewan that nobody throws a party like Saskatchewan! The goal of the province's centennial was to ensure that everyone, everywhere had an opportunity to celebrate this province. And it's been my dream that people would be inspired to say out loud what is in their hearts about the province they're proud to call home. I have seen that happening – and it is indeed still happening. Our centennial celebrations have touched the very essence of Saskatchewan and have struck a chord with our people. We're proud of our province. We love this place – Saskatchewan! My sincere thanks to all those that took in celebrations happening around the province on September 4th, 2005, our province's 100th birthday, and my deepest appreciation to the organizing committees in each of the communities for putting your heart and soul into hosting your region's birthday celebration. September 4th, 2005 was a wonderful day – and a day that will stand out in many people's minds for many years. I know it will forever be one of my most prized centennial memories. The centennial year is still on – and there are still many more exciting initiatives to be announced and many more centennial memories to make. I look forward to celebrating right through this year-long, provincewide celebration of Saskatchewan people and Saskatchewan heart! Happy centennial, Saskatchewan! -30- For More Information, Contact:
