SASKATCHEWAN CELEBRATES WORLD HARMONY DAYS

A message of world peace will echo throughout the communities of Regina, Saskatoon, Melfort and Prince Albert during World Harmony Days, May 3rd-6th. Residents of these communities will welcome the Canadian World Harmony Run team during the Saskatchewan leg of its nationwide journey.

"Saskatchewan is very proud to celebrate World Harmony Days," Culture, Youth and Recreation Minister Glenn Hagel said. "This worthwhile initiative reminds us that despite our many differences, geographic and otherwise, we share this world and that we should do our best to promote peace, harmony and goodwill among each other."

The World Harmony Run is a global relay founded in 1987 that seeks to promote international friendship and understanding. Runners carry a flaming torch as a symbol of harmony and pass it from hand to hand between members of thousands of local communities through over 70 nations around the globe. Canada's team embarked on its run April 24th, 2006 from Victoria, BC and will travel approximately 7,600 km to arrive in St. John's, Newfoundland in mid-June.

The Regina portion of this event coincides with the "Steps of Celebration for Regina Youth", taking place May 3rd, from 7-9 p.m. in support and celebration of the city's young people. Participants of both initiatives will unite and walk around Regina's Wascana Park together, beginning at the boat launch across from the Legislative Building.
