NEW FACILITY OPENS IN THE BATTLEFORDS PROVINCIAL PARK

A new beach changehouse/program office opened today in The Battleford's Provincial Park.

The new facility replaces the previous beach change house which was constructed more than 40 years ago. A new office in the building will also act as the base for the park's summer recreation programming and house related recreation equipment.

"Park visitors expect attractive and efficient services," Minister of Tourism, Parks, Culture and Sport Dustin Duncan said. "The new beach changehouse/program office that opens today will ensure our guests in The Battlefords Provincial Park continue to have access to excellent parks services and water-recreation activities."

The new facility incorporates several energy efficient features, including solar assisted water heating, an enhanced use of natural lighting and water-saving plumbing fixtures.

In addition to the new changehouse/program office, 109 campsites in The Battlefords Provincial Park have recently had their electrical service upgraded.

The improvements at The Battlefords Provincial Park are part of government's larger plan to enhance Saskatchewan's parks services. Among other projects, government has committed to electrify 1000 campsites over 4 years. More than 300 of these sites were ready for the 2009 camping season. Almost 300 more are expected to be ready for 2010.
