News Release - May 5, 1999 SASKTEL CONTINUES DIVERSIFICATION STRATEGY WITH SECURTEK
Deputy Premier and Crown Investments Corporation Minister
Dwain Lingenfelter today announced that SaskTel is continuing its diversification strategy with the launch of SecurTek a Yorkton-based wholly owned subsidiary of SaskTel that will offer remote monitoring services, including province-wide security. Using SaskTel's leading-edge technology and telecommunications expertise, SecurTek will provide services such as Real Time Event Detection, monitoring and dispatch. "SecurTek will offer Saskatchewan residents the reassurance of home safety through a variety of monitoring packages and services," Lingenfelter said. "While most alarm monitoring services in Saskatchewan are provided by service bureaus outside of our province, SecurTek will operate its call-handling centre out of Yorkton, creating jobs here at home." SecurTek will initially employ about 20 people in Yorkton, with that number projected to increase to more than 50 in the future. SecurTek will offer a variety of wired and wireless security system options such as heat, smoke and motion sensors, glass-break detectors and Panic/Medical alert. These products and services will be available at competitive prices through a province-wide SecurTek dealer network (see attached backgrounder). "SecurTek has formed dealer relationships with local security companies in a manner similar to the successful arrangements with independent SaskTel Mobility Centres which provide wireless services around Saskatchewan," said SaskTel President Don Ching. "SaskTel has always supported community-based Saskatchewan business, and this relationship will allow both these businesses and SaskTel to grow in the security industry." "Diversification initiatives such as consulting, project management, software sales and now SecurTek draw on SaskTel's state-of-the-art network and the established skills and expertise of Saskatchewan people to ensure SaskTel's long-term success," Lingenfelter said. SaskTel is the leading full service communications company in Saskatchewan, providing voice, data, Internet, text and messaging services over a fiber optic-based, fully digital network, as well as cellular, paging, wireless data and FleetNet 800 service through its SaskTel Mobility division. -30- For more information, contact: Tim Kydd SaskTel Corporate Affairs Regina Phone: (306) 777-5638 |
