NEW CONSTRUCTION FOR CANDLE LAKE PROVINCIAL PARK

The Government of Saskatchewan today announced the construction of a new service centre in Candle Lake Provincial Park.

River North Construction Ltd. of Prince Albert was awarded the construction project for a contract of $489,237. The new facility will replace the existing Sandy Bay campground service centre which is now more than 35 years old and no longer meets current building code or accessibility requirements.

"Our provincial parks are exceptionally popular recreational destinations for residents of Saskatchewan and tourists alike," Tourism, Parks, Culture and Sport Minister Dustin Duncan said. "The continued success of our parks system depends on visitors having enjoyable camping experiences. The Government of Saskatchewan is ensuring that visitors to Candle Lake Provincial Park continue to have access to excellent washroom and shower facilities."

During the 2009-2010 year, the province has committed more than $10.9 million for capital upgrades in provincial parks. The new service centre for Candle Lake Provincial Park will be available for use in the 2010 camping season.
