News Release - February 4, 2003 FUNDING FOR MOSQUITO CONTROL PROGRAMS
Government Relations Minister Ron Osika today announced $1.2 million in funding to municipalities for mosquito control programs. This initiative will support efforts to control the spread of West Nile Virus expected this year.
Funding will be provided to municipalities on a 50/50 cost-shared basis for programs to reduce the risk of West Nile Virus where that risk is high. "West Nile Virus was confirmed in our province last summer. While we have not had a human case of the disease in Saskatchewan, we want to reduce the risk by assisting with mosquito control programs where they are needed," Osika said. Municipalities will be provided with details of the cost-shared program, such as funding criteria and approval processes. -30- For More Information, Contact:
