PREMIER'S AWARD NOMINATIONS OPEN

Saskatchewan residents have until April 30th to submit nominations for the 2004 Premier's Award for Excellence in the Public Service. The call for nominations is an invitation for people to recognize and honour outstanding on-the-job performance by government employees. The public as well as members of the public service are encouraged to submit nominations for the award.

The award offers public recognition for individuals who exemplify what government values most in its employees: quality service; innovation; and leadership. The Premier's Award for Excellence is part of a larger recognition program implemented in the Saskatchewan public service during 2003.

"The Premier's Award for Excellence is a way for the government and people of Saskatchewan to celebrate and take pride in the achievements of those who work in the public service," Premier Lorne Calvert said. "I encourage people throughout the province to consider nominating one of the many dedicated and talented public servants who work in this province."

"I am so pleased that we have an employee recognition program in place that honours the work of public servants in our province," Provincial Secretary Joan Beatty said. "In Saskatchewan, we are proud of our public servants. They are part of a diverse team of dedicated hard-working individuals who make a genuine difference to the people of this province."

Individual employees or teams from government departments, most Treasury Board Crown Corporations, boards, commissions and agencies are eligible for nomination. Up to six awards will be presented at a ceremony during National Public Service Week in June.

In the first year of the award, a total of 41 nominations were received for employees in 16 different departments and agencies.
