News Release - October 16, 2012 MANUFACTURING INCREASES MORE THAN TRIPLE THE NATIONAL RATESaskatchewan's August manufacturing shipment figures were released today by Statistics Canada and show Saskatchewan's shipments were up 11.3 per cent over last August, the second highest percentage increase among the provinces and more than triple the national increase of 3.2 per cent. "Saskatchewan manufacturing companies are noted for the quality of products that leave our province for destinations around the globe," Economy Minister Bill Boyd said. "Our products are in high-demand, and the rise in manufacturing shipments in today's report shows that these companies are ready and able to meet that demand in a highly competitive global market." Manufacturing shipments totalled $1.2 billion in August 2012, ahead of the $1.1 billion in sales last August. Wood products increased by 76 per cent, machinery manufacturing by 34 per cent and chemical manufacturing shipments rose by 25 per cent over August 2011.
