NOMINATIONS ACCEPTED FOR ENTERPRISE SASKATCHEWAN MEMBER AT LARGE POSITION

The Ministry of Enterprise and Innovation is now accepting applications from the public for the Member at Large position on the Enterprise Saskatchewan Board of Directors.

Minister Lyle Stewart said public applications for the Member at Large position will provide government with access to individuals not necessarily represented by one of the organizations already invited to nominate people to the new board.

"Enterprise Saskatchewan represents a unique and collaborative approach to provincial economic development," Stewart said. "The individuals selected for our board will represent that concept. We want people who can work together with other stakeholders for the common good of our province. The Member at Large position offers the general public a chance to get involved."

Stewart said that the major organizational focus of Enterprise Saskatchewan will be based on key sectors of the provincial economy. The agency's job, through additional sector participation, will be to identify and monitor competitive advantages and disadvantages in each sector, and to prescribe appropriate actions and strategies to enhance Saskatchewan competitiveness and growth. As well, the agency is responsible for identifying barriers to Saskatchewan's growth and making recommendations on action to removing those barriers.

"Business, labour, aboriginal persons, rural municipalities, urban municipalities, post-secondary education institutions, co-operatives, the resource industry and agriculture will all have a seat on the board," Stewart said. "The full list of organizations invited to nominate people to these positions, as well as reports from Enterprise Saskatchewan, will be made public in order to ensure that our government and all future governments are accountable for making Saskatchewan among the most competitive business climates in the country."

Nominations for all board positions close on January 31, 2008. The final board selections will be announced in early March 2008.
