NEW PARATRANSIT VEHICLE FOR BROADVIEW

People living in Broadview will have an easier time accessing special needs transportation services thanks to the Municipal Transit Assistance for People with Disabilities Program.

The Town of Broadview unveiled the new vehicle on December 5th at a public thank you to the provincial government, Kinsmen Foundation and local organizations that made contributions toward the purchase of the vehicle.

The province contributed $55,000 for the vehicle through the Municipal Transit Assistance for People with Disabilities Program. The total cost of the vehicle is over $81,000.

"We are very happy to provide funding toward the cost of a new vehicle," Government Relations Minister Len Taylor said. "I'm sure it will be well-used by the many citizens of Broadview who rely on the special needs transportation services to get to appointments and activities throughout the community."

"We are thrilled to have a new vehicle for Broadview's Paratransit," Councillor Norm Nicholson said. "This would not have been possible without the generosity of the many service groups, local organizations, the Kinsmen Foundation and the provincial government which generously supported this project."

Through the Municipal Transit Assistance for People with Disabilities Program, the provincial government provides financial assistance for 77 communities with both operating grants as well as providing capital toward the cost of 5 new vehicles per year. The province provided a total of $2.65 million for the program in 2004-2005.
