NEW RCMP RESOURCES FOR SWIFT CURRENT AREA

Three new RCMP officers have been assigned to the Swift Current area, as part of the Government of Saskatchewan's commitment to increase the number of police officers around the province.

The three positions, based at the Swift Current regional headquarters include two forensic identification officers and one canine officer. The officers will provide service throughout south west Saskatchewan on a regular basis and throughout the province on a relief basis.

"Keeping communities safe is a top priority of our government," Corrections, Public Safety and Policing Minister D.F. (Yogi) Huyghebaert said. "The addition of these three officers for the Swift Current area brings us halfway to our goal of 120 new police officers over four years."

"As the MLA for Swift Current, I'm pleased to welcome the three new members to our local detachment," Premier and Swift Current MLA Brad Wall said. "I know these officers will enjoy their assignments here, and I know the people of Swift Current are happy to welcome them today."

The three officers for the Swift Current area are part of the 16 new RCMP positions and 14 municipal police positions funded in the 2009-10 budget. All 16 of the new RCMP positions funded in 2009-10 are additions to the Provincial Police Service and became effective October 1, 2009.
