SLGA SUPPORTS PROBLEM GAMBLING HELP LINE

The provincial government is providing $291,166 to the agencies that operate the province's problem gambling help line services.

"While most people view gaming as a form of entertainment, there are some who may encounter difficulties as a result of gambling," Minister responsible for the Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority Donna Harpauer said. "This funding will ensure that trained professionals remain just a phone call away for Saskatchewan residents who require support."

Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority (SLGA) is providing $99,208 to the Prince Albert Mobile Crisis Unit Co-operative Ltd., $96,382 to Saskatoon Crisis Intervention Service Inc. and $95,576 to Mobile Crisis Services Inc. of Regina. The annual funding supports crisis management services offered by the agencies, including the toll-free Problem Gambling Help Line.

The 24-hour a day, seven day-a-week Help Line (1-800-306-6789) handles inquiry and crisis calls related to problem gambling and provides confidential, professional service to problem gamblers and their families from trained counsellors. The services are administered by the Ministry of Health.
