SPRING LEGISLATIVE SESSION TO BEGIN MARCH 10

Government to Focus on Sustaining Economic Momentum and Fulfilling Campaign Promises

Government House Leader Rod Gantefoer today announced that the spring sitting of the Legislative Assembly will begin on March 10.

Gantefoer said the session will focus on sustaining Saskatchewan's economic momentum, making sure that all Saskatchewan people benefit from the province's growing economy, and continuing to fulfil the new government's campaign promises.

"Our government's role is to create an environment that allows growth to continue - not as an end in itself - but to ensure the quality of life for Saskatchewan families is second to none," Gantefoer said.

Gantefoer, who is also the Finance Minister, said he expects many of his government's campaign promises will be fulfilled in the 2008 provincial budget.

"While we still have some financial challenges ahead of us, Saskatchewan's strong economy will allow our government to deliver on the priorities outlined in our campaign platform, including property tax relief, increased funding for schools and universities, and our new tuition rebate program for post-secondary grads," Gantefoer said.

"This session will also see a vigorous debate around the priority legislation our government introduced in December - essential services legislation, amendments to The Trade Union Act and the creation of Enterprise Saskatchewan.

"I'm looking forward to a healthy debate around the mandate we received from Saskatchewan voters and our government's plan for securing Saskatchewan's future."
