YOUTH HERITAGE POSTER CONTEST

Bridging Saskatchewan's past with its future is the goal of the Heritage Poster Contest for students.

Students in Grades 1 to 12 are invited to create posters illustrating a heritage place in Saskatchewan and describe why they feel that place is significant.

"Saskatchewan boasts an incredible wealth of diverse culture, history, and heritage," Culture, Youth and Recreation Minister Joan Beatty said. "This contest encourages young people to discover their own connection to this rich heritage through research and artistic expression."

The contest will award one winner in each of the following grade categories: primary (Grades 1-3); junior (Grades 4-6); intermediate (Grades 7-9); and, senior (Grades 10 to 12). Entries must be handcrafted by an individual student and depict an existing heritage place within the province.

A committee made up of members of the Saskatchewan Heritage Advisory Board and the Saskatchewan Arts Board will review the entries and announce the winners during an awards ceremony to be held during Heritage Week in February 2005. Winners in each category will receive a prize and a framed certificate.

The submission deadline is January 15th, 2005.
