STONECHILD INQUEST

An inquest into the death of Kevin Bradley Stonechild will be held Friday,

January 19th at 9:30 am at the Provincial Court House, 1815 Smith Street,

Regina.

The 33 year old died May 14th, 2000, at the Regina Provincial Correctional

Centre. Stonechild had been remanded on August 3, 1999 and was awaiting trial

at the time of his death.

Section 20 of The Coroners Act, 1999, requires an inquest be held when an

inmate dies in a jail, penitentiary, lock-up or correctional facility.

In addition to establishing when and where the death occurred and the medical

cause of death, the Coroner's jury may make recommendations to prevent similar

deaths in the future. Inquests are open to the public.
