News Release - November 8, 2004 CROP REPORT FOR THE WEEK OF NOVEMBER 7TH
Farmers were able to make some harvest progress this past week, according to Saskatchewan Agriculture, Food and Rural Revitalization's weekly crop report.
Combining progress moved to 93 per cent for the 2004 crop, up from 89 per cent last week. The west-central region remains furthest along at 97 per cent complete. The southeast and northwest are least advanced with 87 per cent complete. Most grain harvested this past week came off with high moisture content and will need to be dried. Weathering caused the majority of the crop damage during the past week. Migrating waterfowl and game continued to damage crops. Overall, crop quality will be below average. There were also a couple of reports of crops beginning to spoil in storage. Farmers are reminded to continually monitor stored grain. Farmers were able to make some progress with fall work – including baling, hauling bales, applying fertilizer and chemicals, fixing fences, moving cattle and picking rocks. -30- For More Information, Contact:
