SOD TURNING HELD FOR NEW SCHOOL IN LLOYDMINSTER

Energy and Resources Minister Tim McMillan on behalf of Education Minister Russ Marchuk today joined parents, dignitaries and representatives from the Lloydminster Public School Division to celebrate the start of construction on a brand new $30 million education facility.

College Park School will serve around 500 students and early learners ranging in grade level from pre-kindergarten to grade nine. Certified to the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) silver standard; this sustainable, state of the art facility will also boast integrated play and park spaces, unique band rehearsal rooms and its very own observatory.

The Government of Saskatchewan has contributed around $8 million toward development, while Alberta Education will also contribute funding toward the new facility.

"Our economy continues to lead the country and accommodating the unprecedented growth we've seen to date is essential," McMillan said. "In the short term a new school offers the facilities to educate the growing number of students in our community, but in the long term, it is well educated young adults that will keep our province strong and prosperous."

"We are very excited to begin the construction of College Park School," Lloydminster Public School Division Board Chair Colleen Young said. "The input from our community, students and staff has helped us design a facility that will serve generations to come in an exciting school setting."

The Government of Saskatchewan has committed approximately $500 million since November 2007 to move forward 41 major school capital projects and about 856 additional smaller school capital projects across the province. This represents a record high investment in school infrastructure in less than a five year period.
