SASKATCHEWAN ENHANCES AIR QUALITY MONITORING

Saskatchewan is taking another step forward in helping to protect people and the environment. Environment Minister John Nilson officially unveiled the new mobile Saskatchewan Air Monitoring Lab today. The lab was announced earlier this year as part of the province's Green Strategy.

"Our priority is to advance Saskatchewan as a leader in environmental protection," Nilson said. "The Saskatchewan Air Monitoring Lab is an important new tool to help monitor and investigate air quality issues in Saskatchewan."

The Saskatchewan Air Monitoring Lab can be driven to various locations, where it will measure air quality and a variety of air pollutants. The mobile lab is also equipped to operate with or without an electrical hook-up. This versatility allows it to be used in remote locations. The lab is fully winterized and will be used year round.

The Saskatchewan Air Monitoring Lab will enhance the province's program of collecting information about the quality of Saskatchewan's air by: sampling a broader range of sites; identifying sites for permanent air quality monitoring stations; conducting special surveys at locations where air quality is a concern; and dealing with emergency situations where air quality may be a concern.
