PREMIER RECALLS LEGISLATURE TO END CROP INSURANCE STRIKE

Premier Brad Wall has asked Speaker Don Toth to recall the Legislature for Monday, June 27 to end the strike by Saskatchewan Crop Insurance.

"SGEU has decided to continue this unconscionable strike at a time when so many Saskatchewan producers are facing a devastating situation as a result of this year's massive flooding," Wall said. "Our government cannot and will not allow this to continue.

"We will stand with Saskatchewan farm families in their time of need."

Yesterday, SGEU President Bob Bymoen called the current situation facing Saskatchewan farmers a "window of opportunity" for SGEU Crop Insurance workers.

"There is something seriously wrong when a union leader views a natural disaster and the suffering it is causing as a ‘window of opportunity,'" Wall said.

"We will not allow Saskatchewan farmers to be exploited as leverage in a labour dispute. These producers are a vital part of our province and our economy. They paid for Crop Insurance coverage and we will ensure they receive that coverage."
