The Saskatchewan Regional Parks Association has received $500,000 from the
centenary fund for the 2000/01 year. This money, which will be administered by the Saskatchewan Regional Parks Association, will be available to its member parks to help improve infrastructure throughout the Regional Parks System. Projects under consideration include campground electrification, golf course improvements and upgrades to swimming pools and playground equipment. Approved projects will also receive matching funding or other inkind contributions from local communities. "The 101 regional parks provide a wide variety of recreation opportunities to the people of this province," Saskatchewan Environment and Resource Management Minister Buckley Belanger said. "Centenary funds will provide renewed infrastructure within the regional parks system in anticipation and celebration of this province's Centennial in 2005." Saskatchewan Regional Parks Association President, Ed Roncin stated, "The association and its member parks are extremely pleased with this grant. It will enable us to fund facility and infrastructure upgrades in conjunction with our members and their sponsoring municipalities." The money for these projects comes from the province's four-year, $120 million Centenary Fund. - 30 - For more information, contact: Bob McEachern Saskatchewan Environment and Resource Management Regina Phone: (306) 787-2948 |
