PREMIER ANNOUNCES ROYAL VISIT

Premier Lorne Calvert announced today that Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal (Princess Anne) will visit Saskatchewan from June 1-4, 2007.

“This province has been fortunate to host several members of the Royal Family in recent years,” Calvert said.  “We look forward to reacquainting The Princess Royal with our rich history and the diversity of our people.”

The main purpose of the visit is to mark the 100th anniversary of the Royal Regina Rifles.  The Princess is Colonel-in-Chief of the Royal Regina Rifles, a regiment that has served its city, province and country in times of peace and war throughout the century.  Other engagements of Her Royal Highness will be announced at a later date.

“We are pleased that as our Colonel-in-Chief, The Princess accepted our invitation to join the Royal Regina Rifles anniversary celebrations,” Commanding Officer of the Royal Regina Rifles Lieutenant-Colonel Murray D. Allan said.  “Her presence will mean a great deal to the members of the regiment as we celebrate our past achievements and look to future endeavours.”
 
The Princess Royal is the second child and only daughter of The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh.  Along with her position of Colonel-in-Chief of The Royal Regina Rifles, Her Royal Highness is actively involved in the Save the Children Fund, of which she has been President since 1970.  This association and her love of equestrian sports have been the starting point for the development of a wide range of charitable appointments, to which she devotes much of her working life.

The Princess Royal last visited Saskatchewan in 2004.
