News Release - August 12, 2008 CANADA'S GOVERNMENT AND SASKATCHEWAN WORKING TOGETHER TO IMPROVE THE TEMPORARY FOREIGN WORKER PROGRAMThe Honourable Monte Solberg, Minister of Human Resources and Social Development, and Minister of Advanced Education, Employment and Labour Rob Norris, today announced that Canada's Government and the Government of Saskatchewan are working together on several fronts to make improvements to the Temporary Foreign Worker Program. "Our government is helping employers deal with skilled labour shortages and making sure that Canadian consumers continue to have access to the goods and services they need with the help of temporary foreign workers," said Minister Solberg. "Our work with the Government of Saskatchewan will ensure that foreign workers continue to enjoy the same rights and protections as Canadian workers." Improvements to the federal Temporary Foreign Worker Program include strengthening protections for temporary foreign workers and improving outreach and communications with both employers and temporary foreign workers. "I am pleased that both governments are developing new and improved publications in several different languages, some of which are already available at local Service Canada Centres and online. We are also working together on outreach activities to ensure that not only workers know their rights but also that employers know their responsibilities when hiring a foreign worker in Saskatchewan and across Canada," concluded Minister Solberg. -30- For more information, contact: Lesley Harmer Chris Jones-Bonk Related Documents
