News Release - December 2, 2009 PUBLIC SERVICE, SGEU TEAM UP TO SUPPORT REGINA & DISTRICT FOOD BANKThe Saskatchewan public service and Saskatchewan Government and General Employees' Union (SGEU) are encouraging all Regina government employees to participate in a joint food drive in support of the Regina & District Food Bank from December 4 to 18. "I am pleased that the Public Service Commission, on behalf of the employer and the union are working together to sponsor this opportunity to help people in need," Minister responsible for the Public Service Commission June Draude said. "This food drive will give employees the opportunity to contribute through their workplaces in support of this worthwhile cause." Food collection bins will be set up in government buildings around Regina. Employees in other locations are also encouraged to consider donating to their local food banks. "Public service employees and SGEU members are part of your community," SGEU's Public Service/Government Employees Bargaining Committee Chair Barry Noweselsky said. "We want to do it to help people less fortunate than ourselves." "Christmas and the Holiday Season is the busiest time of the year for the Regina Food Bank as we work to ensure that every family in Regina and area can have a celebration," Regina & District Food Bank CEO Wayne Hellquist said. "None of this is possible without the continued support and generosity of our many friends and partners in the community. We are pleased to have the public service and SGEU involved with us as partners in this year's campaign...helping us fight hunger and feed hope." The Public Service/SGEU Food Bank Drive will also support CBC Radio-Canada's Comfort & Joy Campaign, to be launched December 4. Draude and Noweselsky also challenged other public sector employers and unions to join in support of the food drive, to make this time of year happier for families in need. -30- For more information, contact:
