TIPS FOR ATTENDING H1N1 FLU CLINICS

In order to ensure smooth traffic flow in flu clinics and avoid long lineups, the Ministry of Health advises people wanting an H1N1 flu shot to:

  • bring your Health card or other provincial ID;
  • go to http://www.health.gov.sk.ca/flushot and download a consent form and factsheet about consent;
  • please read, and if you agree, sign the consent form and bring it with you to the clinic; and
  • you can also watch at six minute orientation video at http://www.health.gov.sk.ca/flushot which will save you from having the watch the same video at the clinic.

"If people can take these steps prior to going to the clinic it should save them some time and allow for smoother operation of the clinics," Deputy Chief Medical Health Officer Dr. Saqib Shahab said. "At some clinics, people can also receive the seasonal flu shot the same time they receive the H1N1 flu shot, based on availability of the vaccine. People should check with their local RHA for more information."

Parents are reminded that children from six months to under three years of age need to receive a second H1N1 shot at least 21 days after their first shot. The second shot should also be received by children three to under 10 if they have underlying health issues.

For information on flu clinics in your area, please log onto www.health.gov.sk.ca/flu or call the HealthLine at 1-877-800-0002.

For people who do not have internet access at home or work, most libraries offer free internet access to people who hold library cards.
