U.S. SENATORS RETURN TO SASKATCHEWAN

A delegation of U.S. Senators is returning to Saskatchewan today to learn more about the province's clean energy resources and technology. This will be the second visit by U.S. Senators to Saskatchewan in just under a year.

"This second visit shows the Senators' continued interest in our province," Premier Brad Wall said. "American leaders are seeing Saskatchewan as a partner in their efforts to develop clean energy technology and move to zero-emission sources of power."

Visiting Saskatchewan are:

  • Senator Saxby Chambliss (R-GA);
  • Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC); and,
  • Senator Kay Hagan (D-NC).

"We'll be showing the Senators about the important contribution Saskatchewan makes to the U.S. economy and clean energy agenda," Wall said. "We have rich reserves of uranium, which the U.S. uses to generate zero-emission electricity. We lead the world in developing carbon capture and storage technologies. We are responsible stewards of our environment. And we're next door."

Discussions won't be limited to clean energy. With Senator Saxby Chambliss, the lead Republican on the Senate Agriculture Committee, the Premier will raise the issues of country of origin labeling, new U.S. food safety regulations, and other barriers to Saskatchewan agricultural exports.

Before returning home on Sunday, the Senators will have a series of meetings with Premier Wall, senior government officials and Saskatchewan business leaders in Saskatoon.
