FAMILY HOUSING PROJECT OPENS IN LA LOCHE

Eight families are enjoying safe, secure and stable housing as the Government of Saskatchewan today officially opened a family housing project in La Loche.

"The addition of these homes will help meet the demand for housing in northern communities," Social Services Minister and Minister Responsible for Saskatchewan Housing Corporation June Draude said. "This development supports the Northern Village of La Loche in their efforts to take advantage of resource development opportunities and, most importantly, to improve the well-being of families. This is all part of the Saskatchewan Advantage that people are hearing about, which continues to make our province the best place to live, work and raise a family."

The project consists of four duplexes (eight two-bedroom units) targeted to single-parent families in the Northern Village of La Loche. The total project cost is approximately $1.2 million. Of that amount, SHC provided $830,000, with the Northern Village of La Loche contributing land valued at $120,000 and cash of $127,000.

"These projects bring together a diverse range of partners, including support from all levels of government, the non-profit and private sectors," Minister Draude said. "Our government is pleased to work with our partners to support Saskatchewan's growing population, and to ensure that housing is accessible to all citizens."
