MANUFACTURING SHIPMENTS UP IN OCTOBER
The province's manufacturing shipments were up 6.9 per cent in October 2012 over October 2011, according to the latest numbers released today by Statistics Canada. Nationally, Saskatchewan had the third highest increase among provinces in terms of percentage change.
"Saskatchewan's economic strength draws from many sectors, including manufacturing," Economy Minister Bill Boyd said. "This is a sector that is not only creating and shipping quality products around the globe, but is also generating jobs, investment and opportunities right here in the province."
On a month-to-month basis (seasonally adjusted), Saskatchewan's manufacturing shipments slipped slightly, down 0.2 per cent compared to September 2012. Nationally, manufacturing shipments dropped 1.4 per cent on a month-to-month basis.
"Quality Saskatchewan made products remain in high demand and we expect this demand to continue," Boyd said.
