REQUEST FOR NOMINATIONS FOR THE 2010 COUNCIL OF THE FEDERATION LITERACY AWARD

Premier Brad Wall is inviting Saskatchewan residents to nominate a literacy leader for the sixth annual Council of the Federation Literacy Award.

"Our government recognizes the importance of literacy in providing the foundation for a highly literate and skilled workforce, which helps Saskatchewan meet its growing economic and social demands," Wall said. "This award acknowledges the contributions of individuals who help lay that foundation, and celebrates the good work being done in communities throughout the province."

Created by Canada's premiers, the Council of the Federation (COF) Literacy Award has been awarded since 2005 in each province and territory. The award recognizes the valuable contributions of Canadians in the field of literacy, including family, Aboriginal, health, workplace and community literacy. Each award recipient receives a COF Literacy Award medallion, as well as a certificate.

The 2010 Council of the Federation Literacy Award will recognize a leader who has contributed to the advancement of lifelong literacy development in Saskatchewan. The recipient will be chosen by three external judges, who will be appointed to the 2010 COF Literacy Award Selection Committee. The committee will meet in June to select the award recipient. The Saskatchewan COF Literacy Award recipient will be announced this summer, and an award ceremony will take place this fall at the legislature.
