NEW HEALTH SERVICES PLAN ON THE WAY FOR LLOYDMINSTER AREA

The Alberta and Saskatchewan governments will work together on a health services plan to continue to provide the necessary, quality care for Lloydminster residents.  The plan will be tailored to address the unique health care partnership in the growing border city and surrounding area.

A working group has been established with representatives from the Alberta and Saskatchewan government departments of health, health authorities and the City of Lloydminster to address a wide range of health care needs.

“As provincial governments, we have enjoyed a strong partnership providing health services for Lloydminster residents,” Alberta Minister of Health Fred Horne said.  “It’s time for the two provinces to update the 1999 bi-lateral agreement for Lloydminster and develop a new plan and solutions that address health care service needs for this growing municipality and region.”

“We recognize that a rapidly-growing population is creating significant challenges in Lloydminster, and are committed to working with our Alberta colleagues, and respective health regions, to ensure we are meeting the health needs of the people of Lloydminster and area,” Saskatchewan Health Minister Dustin Duncan said.

“I am pleased that we are working collectively to come up with common-sense solutions to better serve residents in this important border city,” Saskatchewan MLA for Lloydminster Tim McMillan said.

“I support this discussion and look forward to hearing the recommendations of the working group,” Alberta MLA for Vermilion-Lloydminster Richard Starke said.  “What we need is a renewed plan that provides seamless health care delivery for the people of Lloydminster.”

The working group will meet in early April to develop a new health services proposal that will address health care cost sharing, the need for long-term care services and common standards for facilities.
