News Release - July 28, 2008 PROVINCE ALLOCATES ADDITIONAL FUNDING TO THE SASKATCHEWAN HERITAGE FOUNDATIONIn response to the needs of communities everywhere, Tourism, Parks, Culture and Sport Minister Christine Tell announced today an additional $222,000 to the Saskatchewan Heritage Foundation bringing the province's total provincial contribution in 2008-2009 to $500,000. "The additional funding will significantly increase the Foundation's ability to support community-based heritage research, conservation and promotional initiatives across Saskatchewan," Tell said. "Saskatchewan's heritage places reflect our rich cultural diversity, build community pride, contribute to our quality of life and attract tourists; their preservation is vital to our province's continuing success." "The funding will improve heritage conservation in Saskatchewan," Saskatchewan Heritage Foundation chairman William J. Brennan said. "These new funds are welcome and timely; they will help address not only the increasing needs of communities for funding assistance, but also the rising construction costs associated with heritage conservation work." Since being established in 1991, the Saskatchewan Heritage Foundation has provided over $2 million in direct support of heritage conservation in Saskatchewan which, in turn, has leveraged several million dollars more in federal, private, corporate and community investment in heritage activity. -30- For more information, contact: Janice Wilby |
