ANOTHER STRONG EARNINGS PERFORMANCE FOR SASKATCHEWAN WORKERS

Average weekly earnings for Saskatchewan workers went up again in May, with a year over year increase of 5 per cent.

According to Statistics Canada's Survey of Employment, Payrolls and Hours, the jump in Saskatchewan's average weekly earnings was the second highest increase among all provinces and highest in Western Canada. Nationally, weekly earnings were up 3.7 per cent.

"This is yet another reason to be optimistic about Saskatchewan's economy," Advanced Education, Employment and Immigration Minister Rob Norris said. "The jump in earnings shows that Saskatchewan workers are benefiting directly from our province's strong economy."

Saskatchewan's average weekly earnings of $843.11 were the third highest in Canada, behind only Alberta ($985.17) and Ontario ($874.66).

"With record employment for the past few months and strong growth projections for 2011 and beyond, job prospects across Saskatchewan are promising," Norris said. "As of today, there are more than 6,000 positions available to job seekers on saskjobs.ca."
