SASKATCHEWAN LEADS NATION IN RETAIL SALES

Saskatchewan is again leading the nation with the largest percentage increase in retail sales figures among the provinces on a year-over-year basis according to figures released by Statistics Canada today.

"With more job and business opportunities, and more disposable income, Saskatchewan people are willing to spending their hard-earned money," Enterprise Minister Jeremy Harrison said. "Retail sales rise in periods of strong economic growth, and Saskatchewan is no exception to the rule."

Retail sales were up 10.6 per cent in October 2011, when compared with October of last year and well ahead of the 4.4 posted nationally. On a monthly basis, retail sales were up 1.9 per cent, tied with Manitoba for the second best improvement.

"In the last few weeks Saskatchewan's export sales, manufacturing, new motor vehicles, and wholesale trade figures have been outstanding," Harrison said. "The Saskatchewan economy is operating at levels we have not experienced before, and with positive forecasts and indicators, we are likely to see further progress going into 2012."
