SASKWATER CELEBRATES CANADA WATER WEEK AND WORLD WATER DAY 2011

Did you know that letting your faucet run to fill a glass with cold water, rinse dishes or wash fruits and vegetables uses 7-12 liters of water per minute? To conserve water, refrigerate a jug of tap water for drinking or fill the sink with a small amount of water for your rinsing and washing needs.

To celebrate World Water Day 2011 on Tuesday, March 22, SaskWater encourages people and communities across Saskatchewan to start incorporating simple and easy water conservation practices into their everyday routines.

For almost two decades the United Nations has designated this day to acknowledge the value of water and humanity's need to conserve it. Now the provinces have come together to create Canada Water Week, March 14-22, 2011 in recognition of the importance of this valuable resource in Canada.

"In Saskatchewan, we are fortunate to have some of the best water in the world," Minister responsible for SaskWater Dustin Duncan said. "But we need to remember that it is a valuable and limited resource. Canada Water Week and World Water Day are perfect opportunities to bring attention to the importance of water conservation in Saskatchewan and all over the world."
