News Release - March 10, 2004 SASKATCHEWANIAN NAMED TO 2004 CANADIAN OLYMPIC COMMITTEE
Lorne Lasuita has been named Administrative Officer with Village Operations, Canadian Olympic Committee for the 2004 Olympic Games.
Lasuita will be responsible for managing Team Canada's accommodations, contact information, mail, supplies and warehouse inventory. As a member of the mission staff, Lasuita will also be responsible for enhancing every team member's opportunity to experience the Olympic Games to their fullest. "This is an exciting opportunity for Lorne to be part of a world-wide event that unites sport and culture," Culture, Youth and Recreation Minister Joan Beatty said. "We are proud that Lorne's experience and dedication to sport is being acknowledged through this prestigious appointment to work with Canada's Olympic athletes." Lasuita has been involved with sport and recreation for over 25 years and has extensive experience with multi-sport games. He served as Team Saskatchewan's Chef de Mission at the 1990 and 1995 Western Canada Games, Assistant Chef de Mission at the 1991 Canada Winter Games and Chef de Mission at the 1999 Canada Winter Games. "I am extremely honoured to have been selected as a member of Team Canada's contingent to the 2004 Olympics. I will be associated with top-rated amateur athletes from Canada and from other countries throughout the world," Lasuita said. "This hands-on experience of recognizing and providing for the needs of high performance athletes will be a tremendous asset as I continue my role with the 2005 Canada Summer Games." Lasuita is currently on secondment from Saskatchewan Culture, Youth and Recreation to fulfill the role of Senior Manager for sport, venues, medical services and athlete services with the 2005 Jeux du Canada Games to be held in Regina, August 2005. The 2004 Olympic Games will take place in Athens, Greece from August 13th to 29th. The 16-day event will involve 28 sports that will be held at 35 venues. -30- For More Information, Contact:
