SASKWATER CONNECTED TO SASKATCHEWAN’S GROWTH

SaskWater tabled its 2008 Annual Report highlighting total water sales volumes which increased to a record 21.3 billion litres, up from 20.2 billion litres in 2007.

"I'm pleased to report SaskWater has connected to growth in Saskatchewan's economy by providing quality service to Saskatchewan communities," Crown Corporations Minister Ken Cheveldayoff said. "SaskWater continued to provide quality water and wastewater services to Saskatchewan municipalities, rural water groups and First Nations communities. In 2008 SaskWater expanded the municipal water supply network through agreements with three new water supply customers and added two new certified operations and maintenance customers, helping to sustain and support the province's economic momentum."

"SaskWater has a substantial base of current operations including services to 55 communities, 57 rural pipeline groups and 43 industrial customers providing annual revenues in excess of $21 million for 2008," SaskWater president Stuart Kramer said. "We've experienced significant financial improvements since becoming a commercial Crown in 2002, increasing our revenues by over 45 per cent over this period of time."

SaskWater had a net loss for 2008 of $905,000 and invested $4.3 million on capital for new construction and expansion projects, and infrastructure management on existing systems. These projects accommodate increased growth in Saskatchewan communities and existing customer demands.

The theme of the 2008 SaskWater Annual Report, Connections, speaks to how SaskWater's provision of safe, quality water is connected to retention and growth of populations, retention and growth of business, and healthy and prosperous communities.
