UPGRADED WATER SUPPLIES, BETTER WASTEWATER SYSTEMS AND SAFER ROADS FOR WARMAN AND SIX NEARBY COMMUNITIES

Warman and six nearby communities will benefit from a $2.1 million investment for infrastructure projects from the Government of Canada and the Province of Saskatchewan through the Municipal Rural Infrastructure Fund (MRIF).

Today’s announcement includes funding for Warman and Duck Lake to expand their water reservoirs.  It also provides funding for Blaine Lake, Dalmeny, Hague and Osler to upgrade their wastewater systems.  As well, the Rural Municipality of Rosthern will use its portion of the funding to reconstruct a local road.

Maurice Vellacott, Member of Parliament for Saskatoon-Wanuskewin, on behalf of the Honourable Rona Ambrose, President of the Queen’s Privy Council for Canada, Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs and Minister of Western Economic Diversification, and Member of the Legislative Assembly for Saskatoon Fairview Andy Iwanchuk, on behalf of Saskatchewan Government Relations Minister Harry Van Mulligen, announced the investment today.

“Canada’s New Government is working in partnership with other orders of government to get things done for the people of Saskatchewan,” said Vellacott.  “This joint $2.1 million investment will enable our communities to meet their immediate infrastructure needs and prepare for future growth.”

“Today’s announcement of funding from the province of $1 million for seven projects in Warman and area demonstrates the Saskatchewan government’s commitment to supporting infrastructure and creating a strong future for our province,” Iwanchuk said.  “We are dedicated to making life better for Saskatchewan families and to building an even better future here for our young people.”

Before receiving final approval, community projects undergo a review process under both the Canadian Environment Assessment Act and The Environmental Assessment Act (Saskatchewan). 

The federal and provincial governments are investing a total of $76 million in the four-year Canada-Saskatchewan Municipal Rural Infrastructure Fund.  Participating communities are expected to contribute one-half the cost of any project, which will raise the total infrastructure investment above $152 million.
