REGINA VAN AND TRUCK OUTFITTER PLEADS GUILTY TO SAFETY VIOLATIONS

Van Décor (1992) Ltd. of Regina has pleaded guilty to two charges under Saskatchewan's Occupational Health and Safety regulations and been fined a total of $2,100.

The company pleaded guilty to:

  • contravening section 137(1)(a) of the regulations for failure to ensure that there was an effective safeguard in place to prevent workers from contacting a dangerous moving part of a machine; and
  • contravening section 140(2) of the regulations for failure to develop and implement written work practices and procedures to ensure that cleaning is carried out in a safe manner.

The charges were laid following a June 17, 2009 incident in which a Van Décor employee came in contact with a ceiling fan while installing a strobe light on the roof of a van at the business. The worker suffered injury to the back of his head and his face.

Occupational Health and Safety works to eliminate workplace injuries and illnesses and conducts about 4,000 worksite inspections annually to ensure standards are known, understood and enforced.
