PREMIER OFFICIALLY OPENS FINAL PHASE OF WESTVIEW COMMUNITY SCHOOL

Today students at Westview Community School in Prince Albert celebrated the official opening of the final phase of their new school. The most recent additions include a new resource centre, gymnasium and classrooms. The Government of Saskatchewan contributed $1.7 million to this $2.5 million project, sharing the cost with the Saskatchewan Rivers School Division.

"We are investing in schools, in students, and in the future of Saskatchewan," Premier Lorne Calvert said at the official opening. "In just a few short years, Westview has progressed from a satellite school to a community school that has nearly doubled in enrolment, with a very active parent advisory group. Westview is an excellent example of the community, families and the school working together as a team to support our children."

Westview Community School officially opened in June of 2000 with an enrolment of 100 students in kindergarten to grade four. There are currently 185 students up to grade five. The school has been built in three phases at a total cost of $4.6 million. The Department of Learning's share is $2.7 million.

"We're very pleased to see this final stage completed here at the school," Saskatchewan Rivers Division Board Chair George McHenry said. "This is an exciting day for everyone connected to the school."

"This project is part of the government's commitment to invest in modern, well-equipped learning facilities for Saskatchewan students, ensuring their future is wide open," Calvert added.
