GOVERNMENT RELEASES REPORT ON CENTENNIAL SUMMIT

The provincial government has released a summary report on the Centennial Summit held in Saskatoon January 23rd to 26th.

The report is a synopsis of the main themes expressed by the presenters, and the suggestions and feedback heard from summit participants during the discussion sessions. It includes comments about the strength of our economy, our competitive advantages and challenges, the importance of innovation, and the need to engage Saskatchewan youth and aboriginal peoples in our labour force and economy.

"We heard from summit presenters and participants that we do have a lot of opportunities in Saskatchewan, but we also heard there is work to do, particularly in making sure our future labour force can meet the needs of industry and business," Industry and Resources Minister Eric Cline said. "One of our priorities is to create a better-skilled workforce, and provide more opportunities in the area of training and post-secondary education."

The summit participants also suggested it is essential government create a positive business climate to encourage economic growth, particularly in our areas of economic strength.

"As a priority for this government, and as a result of what we heard at the Centennial Summit, we will continue to review our policies, regulations, and taxation regime with a view to encouraging economic growth in Saskatchewan," Cline said.

Copies of the summary are available on the Centennial Summit web site at www.summit2005.ir.gov.sk.ca.
