News Release - August 19, 2011 NEW MAINTENANCE SHOP FOR MISSINIPE RECREATION SITEMissinipe Recreation Site, located in Lac La Ronge Provincial Park, is getting a new maintenance shop. Klarus Carpentry of La Ronge, Saskatchewan has been awarded a contract to build the new maintenance shop after the previous one, originally built in 1936, was no longer usable and demolished. "Saskatchewan's Parks Service is committed to providing quality park facilities and infrastructure and also ensuring our employees have safe, well equipped workplaces," Tourism, Parks, Culture and Sport Minister Bill Hutchinson said. "This new project will help to ensure that our parks remain in good condition so visitors have an enjoyable experience." The new facility will support the area maintenance program and provide security for tools and equipment. The Missinipe Recreation Site staff has been operating for most of the 2011 season without a maintenance shop. The construction of the maintenance shop fits with government's goal to continue improving Saskatchewan's provincial parks. Over the last four-years, the government has invested more than $33 million into the provincial park system, including adding electrical service to 1,000 campsites. Work is expected to begin this fall with the maintenance shop being available for the 2012 park season. -30- For more information, contact:
