News Release - May 27, 1999 REGIONAL COLLEGES GET FUNDING FOR FACILITIES
Post-Secondary Education and Skills Training Minister Maynard Sonntag
today announced funding of $300,000 for the Parkland Regional College facility in Fort Qu'Appelle, the first commitment of funding to complete the project. "The existing facility in Fort Qu'Appelle is 90 years old," Sonntag said. "We are exploring options to replace it, including a proposal from the Treaty Four Administration to participate in a joint use facility, along with Touchwood File Hills and other local business partners. Developing shared educational and training facilities has proven to be a very cost-effective, beneficial arrangement in many other locations in the province." Funding for several other projects at Regional Colleges throughout the province has already been announced this year. In total, the provincial government has invested $1.5 million in capital funding for Regional Colleges. "Supporting our education and training system helps students throughout the province to get training and find jobs close to home," Sonntag said. "Regional Colleges play a key role in developing a skilled workforce, a primary goal of our Saskatchewan Training Strategy." -30- For more information, contact: Raman Visvanathan Institutions Branch Post-Secondary Education and Skills Training Regina Phone: (306) 787-5739 |
