2008 WORK AND FAMILY BALANCE AWARDS

Applications are now being accepted for the 2008 Saskatchewan Work and Family Balance Awards, which recognize employers for excellence in facilitating work and family balance in Saskatchewan workplaces.

"The effective balance of work and family responsibilities contributes to a secure and prosperous future for the people of Saskatchewan," Advanced Education, Employment and Labour Minister Rob Norris said. "Through the awards, we are pleased to recognize employers who show dedication and innovation in achieving work and family balance for their employees."

Work and family balance was one topic at a meeting for the Federal/Provincial/Territorial Ministers responsible for Labour that took place January 23-25. Minister Norris co-chaired the discussion in which all Ministers agreed to collaborate on the issue of work-life balance across Canada. Minister Norris is now partnering with the federal government to lead the initiative to improve work and family balance across Canada.

"Employers who recognize the importance of work and family balance will find productive, engaged employees who contribute to the well-being of families, communities and the economy," Norris said. "Family Day on February 18 is just one opportunity for Saskatchewan people to put family first and consider the weight of work and family priorities in their own lives."

The Work and Family Balance Awards will be given to up to 12 recipients in four sectors, including private, public, non-profit and co-operative workplaces, based on the use of work and family balance initiatives that include formal and informal practices. Within each sector, up to one recipient will be determined in each of three categories, which includes small (fewer than 50 employees), medium (50-250 employees) and large (more than 250 employees).

The Ministry of Advanced Education, Employment and Labour is partnering with The Regina Work-Life Balance Network to sponsor the awards.

Deadline for submission of applications is March 31, 2008. For more information, or to get an application form, call 306-933-7983 or visit our website at www.workandfamilybalance.com.

The 2008 Awards Selection Committee is comprised of leaders from Saskatchewan business, labour and community organizations. The recipients will be announced at a gala celebration in Regina this spring.
