MANUFACTURING SHIPMENTS IMPROVE IN MARCH

New statistics from the monthly survey of manufacturing for March were released today which show a rise in shipments for Saskatchewan.

According to the survey, manufacturing shipments were up by 14.3 per cent in March 2011 over March 2010 (seasonally adjusted). This was the fifth highest percentage increase among the provinces and well above the national average increase. Shipments were also up from February 2011, rising 9.0 per cent (fourth highest increase in the nation), well above the 1.9 per cent national average.

"Saskatchewan's manufacturing sector is a vital part of our economy and produces a wide variety of goods that supply customers all over the world," Enterprise Saskatchewan Minister Jeremy Harrison said. "The increased numbers are good news - and translate into jobs and investments in communities right across the province."
