SASKTEL 3G+ COVERAGE FOR 25 MORE LOCATIONS

SaskTel has expanded its 3G+ wireless network to 25 more locations across the province of Saskatchewan.

"Construction of the 3G+ network is a significant development for SaskTel and its customers in Saskatchewan," Minister responsible for SaskTel Bill Boyd said. "When the network is complete in 2011 it will be available to 98 per cent of the population."

"Our 3G+ wireless network delivers increased bandwidth, greater international roaming and a wider selection of wireless devices," SaskTel President and CEO Ron Styles said. "3G+ is the new industry standard and will enable SaskTel to make a smooth transition to future generations of wireless technology."

The 25 tower locations, along with 3G+ coverage details are:

  • Burstall, Richmound and Richmound Rural: provide coverage in the oil and gas area between Fox Valley and the Alberta border.
  • Gull Lake: provides coverage in town and along Highway 1 west of Swift Current.
  • Carmichael and Shaunavon West: provide coverage in the area south of Gull Lake, including Highway 37 between Gull Lake and Shaunavon.
  • Cochin, Glaslyn and Turtle Lake: provide coverage in the resort areas of Cochin and Turtle Lake, the town of Glaslyn, and along Highway 4 north of North Battleford.
  • Edam: provides coverage in town and the surrounding area.
  • Cando, Landis and Wilkie: provide coverage in the area south of North Battleford.
  • Kelfield: provides coverage east of Kerrobert including Highway 51.
  • Marriott and Perdue: provide coverage in the area west and south of Saskatoon, including coverage along Highway 14 west of Asquith and Highway 4 north of Rosetown.
  • Luseland and Tramping Lake: provide 3G+ coverage in the area north of Kerrobert and along Highway 31 and Highway 21.
  • Major and Smiley: provide 3G+ coverage in the area north of the oil patch area west and southwest of Kerrobert.
  • Unity and Reward: provide 3G+ coverage in the area east of Macklin including the town of Unity and along Highway 21 and Highway 14.
  • Katepwa: provides 3G+ coverage in the resort area of Katepwa Beach.
  • Meadow Lake Rural and Hunting Lake: provide 3G+ coverage in the area around Meadow Lake and south along Highway 4.

The 3G+ network provides increased bandwidth with download speeds approximately four times faster than existing speeds (up to 21 megabits per second). It is also compatible with approximately 80 per cent of all networks across the world and international roaming customers will be able to use their SaskTel 3G+ device on 3G+ networks anywhere.

SaskTel plans to support the existing Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) digital network for the foreseeable future to ensure that all wireless customers continue to enjoy a full selection of wireless services that best suit their needs. Customers can now choose from a wide range of devices for both the existing CDMA network and the new 3G+ network.
