FINANCIAL SERVICES COMMISSION MEMBERS NAMED

Dave Wild has been appointed Chair of the Saskatchewan Financial Services Commission (SFSC). Wild was previously Chair of the Saskatchewan Securities Commission and Superintendent of the Pension Benefits Branch of Saskatchewan Justice. Along with this new appointment, Wild will remain Superintendent of Pensions.

"Wild brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to his role as Chair," Justice Minister John Nilson said. "There is no doubt that the commission and the people of Saskatchewan will benefit greatly from this new appointment."

Art Wakabayashi, previously Vice-Chairperson of the Saskatchewan Securities Commission, has been appointed Vice-Chair of the new SFSC. Other members include: Dale Hilmer, Regina; Bill Ready, Regina ; Janice Stratychuk, Southey; Gwen Charman, Saskatoon; and Frank Reidy, Moose Jaw.

Legislation establishing the Saskatchewan Financial Services Commission will come into force on February 1st, 2003, and will integrate the three major organizations that regulate financial services in Saskatchewan: the Saskatchewan Securities Commission, the Financial Institutions Section of the Consumer Protection Branch, and the Pension Benefits Branch of the Department of Justice.

The creation of the commission follows a trend toward consolidation of the regulation of financial services that is occurring at provincial, national and international levels.
