WESTERN ATTORNEYS GENERAL TO MEET IN SASKATOON

Attorneys General and Solicitors General from British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba are meeting this week in Saskatoon to discuss issues of importance related to the administration of justice in all four provinces.

"This meeting will help keep the lines of communication and co-operation open between all four provinces as we work toward enhancing our systems of justice at both a provincial and national level," Justice Minister and Attorney General Don Morgan said.

"Keeping communities safe is a top priority of this government," Corrections, Public Safety and Policing Minister D.F. (Yogi) Huyghebaert said. "The discussions being held over these two days will help us to achieve this important objective as we collectively move forward on issues that impact the safety and security of all Western citizens."

Topics being discussed over the two days include: enhanced integration and co-operation between police, crown prosecutors and court systems; improved interprovincial intelligence information gathering and sharing; and addressing root causes of crime in communities and increasing Aboriginal input and participation in the justice system.
