News Release - May 30, 2008 WESTERN PREMIERS RECOGNIZE NATIONAL DAY OF ACTIONWestern Premiers' Conference (WPC) Chair Brad Wall spoke today on behalf of Western Premiers to participants in a National Day of Action event in Prince Albert. Premier Wall was joined by the Premiers of British Columbia, Manitoba, Alberta, Northwest Territories, Nunavut and the Deputy Premier of Yukon. The Premiers are meeting in Prince Albert to discuss sustaining economic growth in the West. Wall said Premiers recognize that the National Day of Action is an important opportunity to raise awareness of challenges facing Aboriginal people, such as poverty and access to education and employment opportunities. "As the West grows and prospers, it is important that everyone participate in and benefit from the economy," Premier Brad Wall said on behalf of his western colleagues. "In particular, we know governments need to work with Aboriginal people to ensure that everyone is included in growing opportunities in the West." Premiers met yesterday with Saskatchewan First Nations and Métis entrepreneurs and leaders. The discussions included topics such as Aboriginal labour force participation and entrepreneurship. -30- For more information, contact: Ian Hanna |
