CHAIR OF PUBLIC CONSULTATIONS ON URANIUM INDUSTRY DEVELOPMENT ANNOUNCED

Enterprise and Innovation Minister Lyle Stewart today announced the appointment of Dan Perrins as Chair of the public consultation process reviewing the findings and recommendations of the Uranium Development Partnership (UDP) report.

Perrins will be responsible for supervising all aspects of "The Future of Uranium in Saskatchewan" public consultation process including:

1. Chairing the half-day stakeholder consultation meeting, and a minimum of:

• Nine community consultation meetings across the province;
• two full-day meetings for presentations by individual stakeholder organizations; and
• one full-day meeting for presentations by First Nations and Métis representatives;
  

2. Managing the facilitation process at community consultation meetings;
3. Acting as spokesperson for the public consultation process; and,
4. Writing and submitting to the Minister of Enterprise and Innovation a report no later than August 31, 2009, summarizing public input and feedback from stakeholders and citizens gathered through the public consultation process.

Stewart said Dan Perrins is one of the most respected public servants in Saskatchewan.

Perrins is currently the Executive in Residence and Senior Policy Fellow, Johnson-Shoyama Graduate School of Public Policy, University of Regina. Prior to this, he served 36 years in public service in many senior positions including Deputy Minister to the Premier from 2001 to 2007. He has extensive experience in high-level public consultation and facilitation.

"We are delighted that an individual with Dan's experience and character has agreed to chair this important initiative," Stewart said. "His leadership will help ensure a fair, accessible and transparent public process, and I am looking forward to receiving his report later this year."

Stewart noted that as Consultation Chair, Perrins will not act as a spokesperson for the UDP or the Government of Saskatchewan nor will he advocate for or against the UDP's key findings or recommendations. In drafting his report, Perrins will not make recommendations for further action with regard to uranium industry development.
