SASKATCHEWAN AVIATION AND AEROSPACE WEEK

This week marks an opportunity to reflect upon the significant contributions of the aviation and aerospace industry to the province.

The week of October 30th to November 6th has been designated as Saskatchewan Aviation and Aerospace week in Saskatchewan, Highways and Transportation Minister Eldon Lautermilch announced today. The week honours the many contributions of the Saskatchewan Aviation Council (SAC) and the Saskatchewan Aerial Applicators Association (SAAA), and their members.

"SAC and SAAA have had significant roles in the Saskatchewan economy as agriculture, mining, travel and tourism all benefited from this industry," Lautermilch said. "It's fitting that we take this opportunity to recognize and celebrate this industry's role within Saskatchewan."

Among the many activities scheduled for the week is the "Wings of Saskatchewan Annual Conference" in Moose Jaw on November 3rd-4th, hosted by the SAC and SAAA. An Aviation Forum, sponsored by SAC, Saskatchewan Highways and Saskatchewan Industry and Resources, will be held in conjunction with the conference. The conference provides an opportunity for government and industry to examine the aerospace industry's potential to make a greater contribution to the Saskatchewan economy through manufacturing, research and development and aviation services.

"SAC provides many communities in Northern Saskatchewan with year-round transportation while SAAA has given the farming community another avenue in protecting their crops," Lautermilch said.

Saskatchewan Highways and Transportation invests more than $1.5 million per year in air transportation infrastructure in Saskatchewan. The members SAC and SAAA generate over $100 million of economic activity in Saskatchewan. SAC works toward improving and enhancing aviation in Saskatchewan while the SAAA applies crop protection product.

There are many activities planned for Aviation Week including the annual Wings of Saskatchewan conference and trade show, hosted by the Saskatchewan Aviation Council and Saskatchewan Aerial Applicators Association.
